Song of the day: Agony Aunts – "Greater Miranda"

I really should get back to playing you Australian songs, but I stumbled across this the other day and find it irresistible:

That’s the title track from the Agony Aunts debut album which was released last month. I found the song so irresistible that after listening to just the first minute of it I bought the album. I’m very pleased to say the rest of the album is almost as enjoyable. (How can you not enjoy an album that’ll cost you $6?) You can hear it all at BandCamp. (Or is that “you can hear it all on Bandcamp”? Curse you, English language!)

Agony Aunts describe themselves as psyche-pop. I reckon you can throw in the phrase “baroque pop” as well, and maybe “a hint of bubblegum”. But whatever you want to call ’em, I like the noise they make.

By the way, Agony Aunts do an intriguing version of The Kinks‘ “Waterloo Sunset“:

Musically, I think their version is gorgeous (it’s a lovely arrangement), but vocally it’s a little odd in places (e.g., the way they pronounce “paradise”). Here’s the original version:
