Why wasn’t this song number one everywhere in the world?
Alphabeat – “10,000 Nights” (2008)
The spirit of ABBA lives on in Danish band Alphabeat: deeply unfashionable people presenting incredibly irresistible music to anyone with ears. “10,000 Nights” appears on their 2008 self-titled debut album.
Now, I’m not a lover of dance pop music at all (I find bands like the Scissors Sisters entirely resistible), but “10,000 Nights” is simply astounding – it has hooks large enough to capture the entire contents of the North Sea, it has a girl/boy vocal duo that harmonises wonderfully, it has me nodding my head almost immediately (which is highly unusual because I’m not a head-nodder at all when I listen to music), and as soon as the song’s finished I want to play it again.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to listen to “10,000 Nights” a few more times…
