Musical coincidences # 96

March 13, 2011

Today’s coincidence appears courtesy of my friend Stonefish (Hi, Stonesthrow!) who suggested it to me ages ago, and then I forgot, and then he reminded me a few days ago. (Thanks for reminding me, Big S!)

It involves two artists that I’d rather not make any kind of musical judgements about, if you don’t mind. (As my mother always says: “If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.”)

Here’s the main melody in the chorus of a song by Australian pop group Bardot:

Bardot – “I Should’ve Never Let You Go (2000) (excerpt)

And here’s the main melody in the chorus a song by Swedish artist Victoria Silvstedt:

Victoria Silvstedt – “Rocksteady Love” (1999) (excerpt)

Oh, and here’s a bonus coincidence involving the Bardot song. During the verses, there’s a piano in the left channel that appears every couple of bars and plays a little doodly thing:

Bardot – “I Should’ve Never Let You Go (2000) (excerpt)

Does that sound familiar to you? If it does, then it may be because it reminds you of this:

Britney Spears – “…Baby One More Time (1998) (excerpt)

Here are the full versions:

And the less I say about all of that, the better. (See above about my mother’s advice.)
