This coincidence is a fairly noticeable one, and I only noticed it the other day when I heard Cliff Richard song from 1976 that I’d never heard before. (And I’m just quietly wondering to myself why no-one seems to have noticed this before. It’s pretty noticeable.)
Here’s how the chorus of Cliff Richard’s 1976 non-hit-single “Hey Mr. Dream Maker” begins:
Cliff Richard – “Hey Mr. Dream Maker” (1976)
And here’s a part of the exceedingly well-known Dr. Hook song, “Sylvia’s Mother“:
Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show – “Sylvia’s Mother“ (1972) (excerpt)
Yes indeed.
By the way, there’s another coincidence in the Cliff Richard song, but I don’t want to make too big a deal out of it because it’s tiny. This is how “Hey Mr. Dream Maker” starts:
Cliff Richard – “Hey Mr. Dream Maker” (1976) (excerpt 2)
That reminds me of:
The Beatles – “Here Comes The Sun“ (1969) (excerpt)
No biggie.
