Musical coincidences # 171

January 23, 2012

My friend David (hi, David!) alerted me to a passage in Keith Richards‘ autobiography, Life, in which Uncle Keith mentioned a similarity (apparently inadvertent, courtesy of Sir Michael Philip “Mick” Jagger) between a Rolling Stones song and a k.d. lang song.

This similarity to be precise:

The Rolling Stones – “Anybody Seen My Baby? (1997) (excerpt)

Link

k.d. lang – “Constant Craving (1992) (excerpt)

Link

I’m very pleased to state that I don’t have to go into detail about how the coincidence came about, because it’s been done already…

As I was gathering information for this post (artist links, artwork for the MP3s etc.), I found an older post by Steve Simels (Hi, Mr. Smiles!) over at his PowerPop blog which discusses this very coincidence. Terrible Confession Time: I’m a regular reader of PowerPop (it’s one of about 15 blogs I check every morning) but must admit that I’d completely forgotten about that post. Oops. Anyway, Steve details the circumstances of the coincidence, and does it better than I could. Plus, Steve supplied full versions of both songs – which makes the rest of this post superfluous.

Nevertheless, here are the full versions:

Musical coincidences # 105

March 26, 2011

This coincidence, like the one yesterday, was suggested by Mr. Fabulous who reckons that these two tracks sound alike:

Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Born On The Bayou (1969) (excerpt)

k.d. lang – “Just Keep me Moving (1993) (excerpt)

Link

Maybe. But to me, that Creedence track sounds more like this…

Jellyfish – “He’s My Best Friend” (1993) (excerpt)

Link

Here are the full versions so you can decide for yourself what sounds like what (or not):
