Here’s the start of David Bowie‘s “Suffragette City” from The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (1972):
I dare say you’re already familiar with that, as Ziggy Stardust is a staple of rock album collections everywhere, and I’d be surprised if you didn’t have it in your collection (or at least knew someone who did).
However, if you’re not familiar with it, you may not have noticed much, as that snippet was only the first bar of the song. To get yourself more familiar with it, feel free to press play as many times as you like until you have the rhythm firmly stuck in your head.
Hopefully, it’s now stuck in your head.
Now, I have a moderate to very strong feeling that Brisbane band Powderfinger are fairly familiar with “Suffragette City,” too. Here’s the start of their 2003 single, “(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind“:
I don’t know any of the members of Powderfinger personally, but I’d bet that at least one of them has Ziggy Stardust in their collection (or maybe one their parents).
