Musical coincidences # 268

June 23, 2012

I’ve been listening to a fabulous 5-CD set, Instrumentals Complete, and one of the tracks on it is “Let There Be Drums” by Sandy Nelson. It was released in 1961 (the year I was born), and I don’t ever remember having heard it before (which is understandable I suppose, because I was approximately zero when it was played on the radio).

About two-thirds the way through the song, Sandy plays this beat:

When I heard that I said to myself, “Hey, I know that beat”:

The Sweet – “The Ballroom Blitz (1973) (excerpt)

Even if the two beats aren’t that similar, this post gives me an excuse to play you my all-time favourite glam song.
