Musical coincidences # 366

February 20, 2013

As I was sitting in the car and listening to the radio the other day, a modern song came on that sounded like it was sung by a teenage girl. When it got to the shouty singalong bit, I asked the 16-year-old Knower Of All Things Teenage Girl* (Hi, Natalie!) who it was, and she said “Taylor Swift“.

During the song Ms Swift sang, she occasionally repeated the word “ever, ever, ever, ever…”. I was confused, because I thought she sang “money, money, money, money…”. I was informed that was a completely different song, and by a singer who wasn’t Taylor Swift.

I eventually discovered the identity of the song that had “money, money, money, money…” in it.

After hearing both, I don’t think they’re completely different.

Taylor Swift – “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (2012) (excerpt)
Update: Taylor Swift’s record company didn’t like me posting the snippet of Ms Swift’s song. (That excerpt was three seconds of music. That record company sure does want to protect those three seconds.) The excerpt is 0:43-0:46 in the video (see below).

Jessie J (feat. B.o.B) – “Price Tag (2011) (excerpt)
Update: I haven’t received any “you can’t post that – no way” admonishments from Jessie J’s record company, but I’ll play it safe and remove that too. The excerpt is 1:01-1:04 in the video (see below).

Here are the full versions. You don’t have to listen to them:

Jessie J (feat. B.o.B) – “Price Tag

(*The aforementioned 16-year-old would like it to be known that she does not like Taylor Swift.)
