Musical coincidences # 272

July 6, 2012

My friend Stephen (No, not my other friend Steve who suggests coincidences – this is a Stephen I’ve known since before the Internet*. Hi, Stephen!) recently asked me if I knew about the Jethro Tull / Eagles coincidence. My response was “Jethro Tull? Eagles? Huh?”

Stephen told me to look it up, so I did. And this is what I found:

The songs:

Jethro Tull – “We Used To Know” (1969)

Eagles – “Hotel California (1977)

Well, there’s something I never knew.

Musical coincidences # 80

February 15, 2011

These coincidences are comin’ thick ‘n’ fast at the moment (there’s another one tomorrow – and the day after that).

Helpful reader, listener, and commenter Anonymous (Hi, An!) offered the following: have a listen to the drum beat at the start of both the Eagles‘ “Heartache Tonight” and Andrew Gold‘s “Never Let Her Slip Away”. The thing I noticed, apart from the drum pattern (boom, ch, b-boom, ch, boom, ch, b-boom, ch), is that they both sound rather similar…
